Mark Cason
Aerial Survey Pilot
Where do you live?
Nashville, TN
How long have you been flying?
I’ve been flying with my dad for about 20 years but I’ve been a pilot myself since late 2022.
What makes Sol a special place to work?
The aircraft I get to fly and the people I work with!
Which of our company values resonates the most with you?
Sol is very safety focused. I know I can trust the aircraft and if an issue ever does come up, that the right thing will be done to ensure safety!
Where is your favorite place that you have traveled for work?
I really enjoyed flying into Medford Oregon. Surrounded by mountains made for a scenic approach into the airport!
What do you like most about your job?
The travel! Getting to fly all over the US has been a nice experience and taught me a lot!
What inspired you to choose this career path?
I’ve had a passion for aviation as long as I can remember. My dad has his private pilot certificate and I’ve been flying with him for about twenty years before I decided to take the leap and pursue a career as a pilot!
What have been some challenging moments for you at work?
Airspace coordination was probably one of the biggest new ones. As an instructor before I was used to communicating with them on little things but never had coordinated to the scale I have with Sol!
What is your favorite way to spend a day off?
Hiking or anything outdoors! Our job requires lots of stagnant time so being able to get out when not working is great!
What excites you about our work?
I love flying so that always excites me but when we can get post catastrophe work and help the community always is nice!
What makes Sol stand out from the competition?
The compassion. I feel at every level people here care what they do and care about those in the company. I’ve never felt overly pressured or not cared about!
What are the first three things on you bucket list?
Own my own plane, build a house, and get to travel around the world!
What are your future ambitions?
Flying jets, I don’t know if that will mean 135 long term or ending up at the airlines but wherever allows me to see the world.
What is one moment in your life that you would want to relive?
The first time I flew! I don’t remember it at all I was so young I’d love to experience it again
What or who is your inspiration? Why so?
In aviation it would have to be my father because he is the one that got me hooked on aviation!
